For Herman woodturning has become a labour of love. For many years he worked with wood as an amateur furniture maker, designing many of the pieces in their home. Woodturning was something he always wanted to try, and in 1995 Herman acquired his first lathe.

"At first, I never considered this an art. As time went on, the wood itself began to "speak" to me, and soon every piece of firewood was a fresh opportunity."

It is enough that people enjoy the work - that it brings them pleasure, peace, enjoyment. I want people to feelclike they can touch the work; feel the warmth of the wood, and maybe, the warmth of the artist. That I what inspires me.
